Darylslittlediablo—though around the barn we simply call him Diablo—might have a racehorse name that sounds like he should come with sparks and fireworks… but in reality, he’s the kind you secretly hope doesn’t get noticed so you can take him home yourself.

This 8-year-old registered Jockey Club gelding (foaled March 5, 2017) has already checked the “been there, done that” box with a successful racing career earning around $144,000. Now, he’s happily swapped the starting gate for a slower lane and is ready to be someone’s steady, reliable partner.

Since retiring, Diablo has been thoughtfully restarted and has proven himself to be safe and enjoyable for a wide range of riders. He carries himself with a relaxed, “more woah than go” attitude, offering a smooth and easy walk, trot, and lope that make every ride feel effortless.

On the ground, he’s just as agreeable. He stands quietly for mounting and saddling, loads and unloads without fuss, and gets along well with both mares and geldings. No drama in the pasture, no nonsense in the barn—just a solid, kind-minded gelding that’s easy to have around.
