Different riding levels, and their breakdowns.
๐ด Kid Safe
A horse labeled “Kid Safe” is the gold standard for safety and reliability. These horses are calm, patient, and gentle enough for young children. They're typically forgiving of mistakes, have a steady pace, and are not easily spooked. Ideal for pony rides, first-time experiences, or helping a child learn confidence in the saddle.
๐ Beginner Safe
A “Beginner Safe” horse is suitable for someone just starting out or with very limited riding experience. These horses are calm, predictable, and dependable. They tolerate wobbly seats, mixed cues, and light handling. They generally require little more than basic direction and are focused on doing their job safely and slowly.
๐ด Advanced Beginner
An “Advanced Beginner” rider has developed balance and confidence and can handle a horse at all speeds. These horses may have more energy or require clearer cues, but they are still forgiving and cooperative. Suitable for riders who are comfortable cantering, changing gaits, and beginning to ride independently on trails or in arenas.
๐ Intermediate Rider
An “Intermediate Rider” has experience with different horses and situations. They can walk, trot, canter, and possibly do basic patterns or trail obstacles without assistance. They’re learning to refine cues and respond to a more sensitive or responsive horse. Horses suitable for intermediate riders may need more direction, consistency, or confidence from their rider, and may not tolerate mistakes as easily.
๐ด Advanced Rider
An “Advanced Rider” has the knowledge, balance, and independence to ride a variety of horses, including those who are green, high-energy, or need training. They’re confident at all gaits, understand collection, lateral work, and can handle strong or reactive horses. These riders can safely develop a horse and work through challenges without becoming unseated or rattled.
