Mokie – A Brave Heart Learning to Trust Again

Mokie is a 9-year-old bay Quarter Horse gelding with a heart as big as the mountains he’s learning to trust again in. His past is marked with pain—rescued from an abusive home where fear was all he knew, Mokie came to us carrying deep emotional scars that no horse should ever bear.

Before coming to us, Mokie found a brief haven with a kind-hearted owner who stepped in to save him from his situation. Though his body began to heal, his spirit remained fragile. You can still see the echoes of his past in the way he hesitates—but also in the way he tries. Because more than anything, Mokie wants to believe that people can be kind. He wants to trust—he just doesn’t know how to do it fully… yet.

We're helping him take those steps, day by day. With every gentle touch and patient moment, Mokie becomes a little braver, a little more open. He’s what we call a “step-up” horse—meaning he needs a rider who understands the importance of time, kindness, and consistency. In return, Mokie gives his whole heart.

This stunning bay gelding is eager to please and genuinely tries to understand what’s asked of him. He’s learning neck reining, moves nicely off of foot pressure, and is developing into a soft, responsive ride. His personality leans toward “more woah than go,” which makes him a steady partner once he’s comfortable. He’s also been ridden out in the open and down the road, handling the big world with quiet resilience.

Mokie is a story still being written—a tale of redemption, courage, and the healing power of love. With the right person, we believe this gentle soul will become not just a good horse, but an unforgettable one.

We are happy to hold Mokie for 7 days with a $300 deposit. This deposit is non-refundable, but it can be transferred to another horse in the barn if Mokie isn’t the right fit.
