Hero is one of the rescues currently in our care, and his story is a heartbreaking reminder that not all wounds are visible at first glance. Hero came to us deeply scarred from severe abuse, so frightened of people that he would flinch at even the smallest movement and refuse to be touched. The fear in his eyes spoke louder than words ever could. In just a week of patient love and gentle care, we are beginning to see small but meaningful changes—he no longer shies away from the gate when someone approaches and has even started to accept treats. Hero still has a long journey of healing ahead, but with time, kindness, and trust, we believe this sweet boy will discover the safety and love he has always deserved. She has healing to do, both in body and spirit, and she needs patience and love to fully trust again. Already, under the care of our staff, she is beginning to show glimpses of the joyful, confident mare she is meant to be. With time, consistent care, and a heart willing to open to her, Jazzy will blossom into the loving, spirited companion she was always meant to be.

Shez Cool and Famous, born March 21, 2007, carries a name that once spoke of pride and promise — and even after all she’s been through, she still lives up to it in her own quiet way. A registered AQHA mare with the sweetest soul, “Cool” has weathered more than her fair share of hard times. The years weren’t always kind to her, and somewhere along the line, she was left behind — thin, tired, and forgotten.

But when we found her, something about her still shined. Maybe it was the soft look in her eyes, or the way she leaned in gently when you spoke to her — like she was trying to believe that people could be kind again. Beneath the rough edges and the bones that showed was a heart that had never given up.

Today, Cool is on her way back to the beautiful mare she was always meant to be. She’s gaining weight, regaining her strength, and rediscovering what it means to feel safe. Every day she grows a little brighter, a little braver, and a lot more loving.
