River is a family-friendly, advanced-beginner trail mare with a calm, willing nature. She has been quiet and sensible down country roads, through the woods, and out on the trails, handling her surroundings without making a big deal out of everything she sees.
River will walk, trot, and lope, and when you cue her to go, she listens and does what you ask. This is the main reason we recommend her for an advanced beginner rather than a true beginner. A brand-new rider can sometimes accidentally give cues without realizing it and ask a horse for something they didn't intend. River is responsive to her rider, so she is best suited for someone who understands their basic cues and is comfortable communicating what they want.
For the right rider, that's one of River's best qualities. She listens, responds, and is ready to go when asked, making her a fun confidence-building horse for someone ready to take the next step in their riding.
River is 14 years old and approximately 15.1 hands. She stands quietly for grooming and tacking, picks up all four feet, and loads and unloads well.
